Shannan Leelyn, Esq., a member of both the Massachusetts and California (inactive) State Bars, completed her undergraduate work at the College of William & Mary in Virginia, and later graduated as the Valedictorian, summa cum laude, from Thomas Jefferson School of Law in San Diego, earning a Juris Doctorate and a concurrent Certificate in Law and Social Justice. Before relocating to the Pioneer Valley in 2008, Attorney Leelyn was a Senior Law Clerk and then Associate at Stock Stephens LLP, an AV-Rated firm in San Diego. Her work focused primarily on civil rights, marriage equality, and electoral integrity, as well as elder, employment, property, and business law. Attorney Leelyn also was a judicial intern for the Honorable Jeffrey B. Barton, San Diego Superior Court.
As an adjunct Professor of Law at Thomas Jefferson School of Law, Attorney Leelyn taught Legal Research and Writing to first year law students at her alma mater. An accomplished writer and published author, Leelyn has garnered a host of awards for her written work, including a nomination for the prestigious Burton Award for Legal Achievement and placement in Lavender Law’s national writing competition.
Upon relocating to New England, Leelyn created Afternoons Off – Lawyers Helping Lawyers, an innovative business that puts into practice a more cooperative model for practicing law. Through Afternoons Off, Shannan Leelyn continues to assist lawyers across the Commonwealth with cases covering nearly every topic, including claims against local, state, and federal governments, civil rights claims, high-end business litigation, employment matters, property issues, consumer rights, as well as civil, criminal, and domestic relations appeals.
Sharing her constitutional insight, Attorney Leelyn has also been a guest lecturer for the American Constitution Society, discussing federal and state constitutional issues related to marriage equality, and for Middlesex Community College in celebration of Constitution and Citizenship Days, discussing various approaches to constitutional interpretation and their impact on tangible rights.
